+ Description
In 2006 TOTAL Italia S.p.A. commissioned the architects Luca Compri and Giovanni Dal Cin to carry out a preliminary study assessing a "standard" service station from a sustainability point of view. The work had three main goals: 1) to highlight the problems of the current design approach and give an initial critical assessment; 2) to define possible solutions for new builds and refurbishments; 3) to provide general design guidelines for minimal interventions. Sustainability was the only point of reference. The analyses and topics were organised into reference sheets, so that content which, taken as a whole, would have been too complex to understand and implement could be kept manageable. A summary table sets out the topics, highlighting actions, benefits and any additional costs or savings. Being organised in sheets, the work can be updated over time without changing its basic structure. Green building, sustainability, energy saving, renewable energy and natural materials are some of the key features of this work, carried out at a time when such an approach was still considered experimental, if not pioneering.
