red box

The renovation of a two-storey penthouse in Milan. The old partition walls that divided and fragmented the upper floor were demolished, so as to connect the inside of the home (kitchen and living area) visually and physically with the panoramic south-facing terrace. The apartment now opens up to the city and to the small garden outside, fills with natural light and feels larger despite its small size (75 m² per floor). The star of the space is the red box in the middle, used for storage: rotated by about 18 degrees from the outer walls, it brings movement to everything around it. The different areas, though open to each other, stay clearly defined through changes of level and different floor finishes (oak, porcelain stoneware…).
